Digital Accessibility at SSEN Transmission

We're delivering an accessible digital world, championing digital inclusion and accessibility.

Over 1 billion people worldwide have a disability, and of this number, very few have access to the assistive products that they need to read and understand digital content. We're helping to remove barriers many people face as we offer accessible resources to our stakeholders, customers, and colleagues, enabling a digital experience suited to their own specific needs.

The image features a man working in a modern office setting. He is wearing a light grey shirt, glasses, and a headset with a microphone, suggesting he is engaged in a virtual call. The man is smiling broadly, looking at a computer screen, indicating he is having a pleasant interaction.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

Every visitor to our website deserves a first-rate digital experience. People with access needs due to disabilities and/or impairments must be able to experience web-based services, content, and other digital products with the same successful outcome as those without.

As we deliver our network for net zero, we’ll also continue to build accessible online experiences and invest in IT systems that work for everyone. We're providing tools without question, as we work towards a fully inclusive digital world.

Digital Accessibility & Recite Me

We believe in accessibility for all, allowing everyone the opportunity to use the internet in the way that it is intended.

At SSEN Transmission we utilise Recite Me's assistive technology on our website, which enables our visitors to customise their experience in a way that best suits their individual needs.

Recite Me Logo in Red Text What is Recite Me?

Recite Me is innovative cloud-based software that lets visitors view and use our website in a way that works best for them.

We’ve added the Recite Me web accessibility and language toolbar to our website to make it accessible and inclusive for as many people as possible.

It helps people in the UK who have a disability, including those with common conditions like sight loss and dyslexia, access our website in the way that suits them best.

It also meets the needs of the 4.2 million people in the UK who speak a language other than English at home,  by translating our web content into over 100 different languages.

How can I access the Recite Me toolbar?

You can open the Recite Me Accessibility Toolbar  which includes customisable styling features multiple reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages including 65 text-to-speech.  Our website users can launch the Recite Me assistive toolbar by clicking the yellow treble-A icon in the bottom left corner of every page of our website.

After you click on the “Try Our Toolbar” button, the Recite Me toolbar opens and displays a range of different options for customising the way the website looks and ways you can interact with the content.

Our Commitment to Inclusivity & Stakeholder Engagement

As a stakeholder-led business, we work hard to meet the needs of all our stakeholders and customers.

We collaborate and work in partnership with our stakeholders to overcome environmental, societal and economic challenges; and we advocate on behalf of our stakeholders to drive positive change along our pathway to net zero. Carrying out effective engagement with our stakeholders is crucial to our critical work and we are committed to delivering the highest stakeholder engagement standards.

Our latest AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard health-check performance, and the actions we’ve taken to improve our standards and engagement practice, ensure we deliver on AccountAbility’s principles of ‘Inclusivity’, ‘Materiality’, ‘Responsiveness' and 'Impact' alongside and in alignment with our own engagement principles, co-developed with stakeholders. Together, these principles help us to: include different stakeholders to enrich our work, engage on material issues that matter to our stakeholders, and respond to stakeholder issues through our decision-making, dialogue and performance.

Inclusivity is more than a stakeholder engagement process. We're committing to accountability in our organisation to enable our stakeholders active participation by identifying ways in which they consume resources and material - ensuring that it is accessible for all.

    Inclusion & Diversity

Innovative solutions to climate change require diverse perspectives, different experiences and new skills to help us reach net zero. Our culture encourages everyone to be themselves – no matter what your background is.
