The Tealing bypass will enhance network flexibility by allowing power flows to be managed more efficiently, reducing system constraints and improving overall transmission reliability.
This project is associate with the ongoing East Coast 400kC Upgrade and East Coast 275kV upgrade projects which were included in out RIIO-T2 plan. Its completion will ensure greater adaptability in managing electricity flows, supporting a more resilient and efficient transmission system.
As the energy network continues to transition towards a low-carbon future, this project is essential to accommodating increasing levels of renewable generation. The bypass solution will enable improved system coordination, helping to optimise power transfers and minimise constraints that could otherwise affect the delivery of renewable energy to demand centres.
In January 2025 we have submitted a funding request to Ofgem under the Medium Sized Investment Project (MSIP) mechanism. Any confidential or commercially sensitive information has been redacted from the document.
