About the Project
We are proposing to construct a strategic spares warehouse at a location in Inverness.
The locational advantages of the site identified at Inverness is anticipated to lead to benefits with regard to improved repair times to reduced network and customer risks, and will help rationalise spares holdings and reduce consequences of system failures by way of improved logistics and advantageous strategic access to the network area.
We are constructing a 7500m2 strategic spares warehouse at the Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP) development adjacent to Inverness Airport. The selected location has excellent transport links being in close proximity to major trunk roads.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.

We're here to lend a helping hand
We are committed to supporting the communities in the north of Scotland where we operate, both now and in the future. As part of our ongoing efforts to make a difference and have a positive impact on local communities, we are proud to offer volunteering days to local groups and charities, particularly in the areas that host our electricity infrastructure or where our proposed projects are located.
This month, we’re excited to announce the launch of our new Volunteering Webpage, designed to make it easier for local communities to request volunteering support from us. To request our help, simply complete the ‘Volunteering Nomination Form’ linked at the bottom of our new webpage. Please note, as our team works on a voluntary basis, it may take us some time to coordinate our people and match them with opportunities. We kindly ask for your patience as we work to keep up with volunteering demand.

Site Closure 2024
Works on site will pause for the 2024 festive period with the site closing from 20 December 2024 until 6 January 2025. Although the site will be closed for all construction workers during this period, security will remain in place. -
Site mobilisation
SSEN Transmission's Principal Contractor, Global, have commenced site mobilisation works for our Inverness Strategic Spares Warehouse Project at the Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP).
Initial work will include setting up the site compound, the build of a temporary car park, portacabins and advance survey work. Lorries will be going to and from the site with no road closures planned.
Construction of the warehouse will commence from the 4th September 2023 following planning permission being granted by The Highland Council on the 6th April 2023.
Our working hours will be between 08:00- 19:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays and we will endeavour to keep disturbance to a minimum. There may be times where there could be an increase in traffic and noise. Global’s Traffic Management plan seeks to mitigate the impact to local residents and businesses, the detail of these can be viewed via The Highland Council planning portal under reference 22/02224/MSC. -
Planning Permission Granted
We are pleased to announce that permission for the Inverness Warehouse works has been approved, subject to conditions, by The Highland Council, on 6th April 2023. Construction works intend to start in late Summer 2023 and are expected to be completed in 2025. -
Planning Application
We are delighted to confirm we have now submitted our final planning application to The Highland Council regarding our proposal for a new industrial warehouse with access, associated infrastructure and landscaping, located on an approved phase 1 masterplan site, at Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP). For those that wish to view our application in full and submit formal comment to the council our application can be viewed via The Highland Council planning portal, under reference 22/02224/MSC . -
Feedback Period Closed
The feedback period for providing comments following our virtual consultation for the proposed Strategic Spares Warehouse in the Inverness area that we held on 10 August has now closed. The project team would like to extend thanks to all members of the public who took the time to provide feedback on our proposals. All responses received will now be reviewed.

August Virtual Consultation
SSEN Transmission are taking forward plans to construct a strategic spares warehouse in the Inverness area and as such are holding a virtual online consultation to allow stakeholders and other interested parties engage and share feedback on our proposals This event will provide further details on the need for the warehouse and present our proposed location.The virtual consultation events have been designed to be as interactive as face to face events, allowing for presentation of key project information and plans, as well as providing an opportunity to ask questions about the project.Visitors will be able to engage directly with the project team, via a live text chat function, where they can ask any questions they might have about the project and share their feedback on the current proposals.To find out more please visit the project overview page.
