Pedal power raising pounds for children’s cancer charity

A kind-hearted colleague from Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHE Transmission) has cycled 100 miles for raise money for the charity Children with Cancer UK.

SHE Transmission Project Director Andy Malkin was asked to join the Amec Europe Leadership Team as they took part in the Prudential London to Surrey cycling event earlier this month. Amec Transmission and Distribution Managing Director Marc Boulter had been organising the event over the last twelve months and Andy was thrilled to be asked, representing his team who are currently working on the Kintyre-Hunterston project on the west of Scotland.

Some 36,000 riders turned out to pedal through the closed streets of London and Andy had to put some power into his pedalling with keep up the pace: “The speed on the first 40 miles was averaging 28 miles per hour, but when we hit the hills at the mid section I could feel myself falling back. The cheering of the crowds willing us on and the thrill of putting in a Mark Cavendish style sprint to the finish line spurred me on.

“It was a real honour to take part in such a wonderful event and know that it’s raising money for such a well-deserving charity.”

In addition to thanking his Amec hosts – Marc Boulter and John Pearson Amec CEO – Andy, who cycles every year for a cancer charity, says he’s looking forward to reciprocating for another great event and cause in 2016.
