SSEN opens Future Energy Generation and Storage Consultation

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks’ (SSEN) Transmission business has released its final Future Energy Scenario consultation paper, examining the future potential of energy generation and storage in the north of Scotland.  

As part of its preparation for the next transmission business plan, SSEN is consulting and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to seek views on what network requirements and challenges it needs to prepare for and consider for the next expected RIIO-T2 price control period.

Imran Mohammed, Senior Business Insight Analyst, is leading on the FES work and explains why feedback is so important in helping to inform SSEN’s next business plan:

“We are very excited to release our final paper which examines the potential direction of energy generation technologies that may be favoured by developers and also how surplus energy might be stored and drawn upon when consumer demand increases. As the UK moves towards a low carbon economy, we are confident that this paper will help us to plan for the future whist keeping customers at the heart of our decisions.

“We are keen to receive feedback from industry, customers and stakeholders to test our assumptions within the paper and help us to understand what other factors may need to be considered as part of our analysis. We are grateful for all feedback received so far through our FES papers; all have provided extremely helpful insight into each topic area and helped us to build a clearer picture of the possible energy scenarios our network area will need to prepare for in the 2020s. We look forward to reporting back fully on all findings in Summer 2018.”

The consultation is open for comment until midnight 16 February 2018.
