Caithness-Moray wins two RICS Awards
SSEN proudly picked up two awards at the annual Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards Scotland 2018 last night.
The Caithness-Moray team won awards in both the Infrastructure and Project of the Year categories. The highly-acclaimed Project of the Year title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area.
The RICS awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure in Scotland, celebrating the achievements and successes of infrastructure projects and their impact on local communities.
On winning the awards, Dave Gardner, SSEN’s Director of Transmission, said: “The Caithness-Moray team is extremely proud to have won in both the Infrastructure and Project of the Year categories at the 2018 RICS Scotland Awards in recognition for its contribution to the low carbon economy and the local community.
“I’d like to congratulate the team on all their hard work during the development and continued construction of the project.”
The Caithness-Moray transmission link is centred on a HVDC submarine cable in the Moray Firth which will enable around 1,200MW of additional renewable capacity to connect to the electricity network. As well as the submarine cable, the Caithness-Moray project includes:
- A new substation and an HVDC converter station at Spittal in Caithness;
- An expanded substation and an HVDC converter station at Blackhillock in Moray; and
- Reinforcements of the transmission networks between Dounreay and Mybster and Loch Buidhe and Beauly.
The £1.1bn Caithness-Moray project represents the largest investment in the north of Scotland’s electricity network to date since the hydro development era of the 1950s and is the largest capital investment project ever undertaken by SSEN.
