Local community invited to comment on substation plans
SSEN Transmission welcomed the local communities of the Tummel Valley to Kynachan hall last week for their Kinardochy substation open consultation event.
The consultation event is the second to be held by SSEN Transmission. In August they presented the substation site selection process, which assessed nine locations before the final preferred site was selected. During this event the project team were on hand to answer questions and received feedback on the location of the substation and its design.
A new substation is required at Kinardochy to support the management of the power flow on the Beauly – Denny overhead line. Ensuring the voltage requirements set out within the National Energy Transmission System Security and Quality of Supply Standard are met. Network and system studies have shown that currently contracted generation will cause such a change, within the Tummel Bridge area, and will require reactive power support to be installed to maintain voltage levels under a number of different system operating scenarios.
On Thursday 21 November SSEN Transmission held a follow up consultation event where they presented responses to comments received through their consultation to date. During the event the local community were able to ask to the project team about how construction traffic and light pollution will be managed during construction and how the substation will be screened once constructed.
Louise Anderson Community Liaison Manager Said:
“We would like to thank to all members of the public and interested parties who took the time to attend our public pre-application consultation event. Without this valuable feedback, the project development team would be unable to progress projects and reach a balanced proposal.
Our proposals are available to view online for anyone who couldn’t make our consultation events. We welcome feedback on the current proposals and most recent public consultation and encourage anyone interested in providing feedback to do so, this can be submitted via the website until Friday the 6th of December at 4pm. “
SSEN Transmission will collate feedback received and this will inform the detail of the planning application SSEN Transmission plans to submit the planning application to Perth and Kinross Council in early 2020.
