Launch of Lairg-Loch Buidhe Community Liaison Group

SSEN Transmission has today launched its Lairg-Loch Buidhe Community Liaison Group (CLG) and is encouraging anyone with an interest in the construction phase of the project to apply for a place on the group.

The CLG will consist of representatives covering a broad range of local interests, including members of the Lairg Community Council, working alongside key members of SSEN Transmission’s project team. It will help provide the wider community with updates on construction activity as well as advance notice of key milestones in the main works’ programme. It will also provide a formal platform for the local community to raise any issues related to the construction of the project directly with SSEN Transmission’s project team, providing a crucial link between the community and the project.

Earlier this year SSEN Transmission submitted a Section 37 application to the Scottish Government for the erection of new and replacement overhead infrastructure in the area, and a Town and Country Planning application to the Highland Council for the construction of the new Dalchork substation. If consented, the network upgrade will support the connection of new renewable electricity generation to the transmission system across the north of Scotland.

Commenting on the launch of the CLG, SSEN Transmission’s Community Liaison Manager, Lisa Marchi-Grey, said:

“As a responsible developer, we are committed to working closely with the local community throughout the development and construction of our major projects.

“The creation of the Community Liaison Group will bring the local community closer to the project and crucially will ensure our team has a greater understanding of the needs and expectations of the people who live and work in the area, helping ensure we consider and address their needs throughout the construction of the project.

“This group will allow us to engage with the wider community on a regular basis, up to and throughout the construction phase of the project. The valuable feedback obtained through the CLG will ultimately help shape our plans and approach to the development of the project and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming involved in this important local initiative to get in touch.”

The CLG will consist of key members of SSEN Transmission’s project team, including the project manager, site manager, and community liaison manager, with the company looking for eight members of the local community to join them.
