SSEN Transmission seeks views on its proposals to underground existing infrastructure near Killin
On 2 July SSEN Transmission will host three online consultation events to engage with stakeholders on plans to improve the visual impact of existing transmission network near Killin in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.
The electricity and gas markets regulator, Ofgem, is responsible for administering a £500m fund for GB electricity transmission owners to mitigate the impact of existing electricity infrastructure in National Parks and National Scenic Areas.
In response to this funding SSEN Transmission has developed proposals to remove a total of 7.8 km of overhead, including 31 steel lattice towers, between Killin substation and Lix Toll, with electricity cables being put underground instead. The removed infrastructure will include the most prominent section above Killin and the Falls of Dochart.
To present its proposals SSEN Transmission has developed an online consultation tool, to enable the local community and other stakeholders to experience the full exhibition from home on a computer, tablet or mobile device, whilst maintaining Government guidance on social distancing. The online exhibition has been designed to look and feel like a real consultation in a community hall, with exhibition boards, maps, interactive videos and the opportunity to share views on the proposals.
Project Manager, Lee Wilson, said: “VISTA offers a unique opportunity to look again at our existing transmission assets and mitigate their impact in some of Scotland’s most precious landscapes.
“We have been working closely with the local community, Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and local stakeholders on the project to date and their feedback has been pivotal in shaping the proposals we are presenting.
“The online consultation events have been designed to be as interactive as face to face events, allowing for presentation of key project information and plans. We would encourage anyone with an interest in the proposal to come along to find out more about our plans. “
