SSEN Transmission to host virtual consultation events for East Coast overhead line upgrades

SSEN Transmission will shortly be consulting on proposals to reinforce the existing 275kV overhead line from Kintore in Aberdeenshire to Scottish Power Energy Network’s boundary at Blairingone, as part of wider upgrades of our Transmission Infrastructure on the East Coast of Scotland.

To enable operation at an increased voltage of 400kV, the proposed overhead line upgrade will increase capacity of the current line to allow for the connection of renewable energy projects, supporting growth as part of the green economic recovery and the journey to net zero emissions. The upgrades will also help to strengthen local security of supply and increase overall network resilience.

With current social distancing restrictions on face to face consultation, the consultation events will take place virtually on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of September and we invite all interested parties to participate in the events and share their views to help shape our final design for the project.

Gayle Bennie, Development Project Manager from SSEN Transmission, stated:

“The upgrade of the East Coast overhead line is an essential project for the transmission network, representing a major investment in an asset which is critical to maintain security of supply and support the transition to net zero emissions.

“As a responsible developer, we are committed to working closely with the local community as we develop our plans and we encourage those with an interest to participate in the consultation and share your views and help shape the development of the project”

SSEN Transmission’s online engagement portal is designed to be as interactive as face to face events, allowing for presentation of key project information and plans, as well as providing an opportunity to ask questions about the project. Visitors will be able to engage directly with the project team, via a live chat function, where they can ask any questions they might have about the project and share their feedback on the current proposals.

The events will be held virtually on the following dates and times:

1 September – 2pm-4pm

2 September – 4pm-6pm

3 September – 5pm-7pm
