SSEN Transmission consults on its plans for Lochay substation
On 17 September SSEN Transmission will host an online consultation exhibition to engage with the stakeholders on its to plans to replace the 132/11kv transformers at Lochay substation.
The consultation exhibition follows events held in May and December last year, where local stakeholders provided their feedback on plans to replace the transformers at Lochay substation as it comes to the end of its operational capabilities.
Incorporating the feedback received to date, SSEN Transmission are now presenting new designs for Lochay substation and are seeking feedback on the new proposals including:
- Revert to original site location
- Change the orientation of the substation layout so the building reduces the visual impact from the south west, lowering the level of the substation
- Propose to use a gantry rather than a new tower within the substation compound
- Removal of the existing terminal tower at the power station
- Creation of a new access junction off the public road.
With current social distancing restrictions on face to face consultation, the consultation event will take place virtually on 17 of September with local stakeholders invited to participate in the events and share their views, to help shape the final design of the project.
Project Manager, Stuart Gray said: “We held two public consultation events last year and following the feedback we received we have continued to review the design options available. Reflecting on this feedback, we have made the decision to revert back to the original location with a revised layout.
“We are now seeking feedback on our new proposals and we encourage anyone who might be interested to join the virtual exhibitions where you will be able to engage directly with our project team, via a live text chat function, where you can ask any questions they might have about the project and share their feedback on the current proposals.”
SSEN Transmission’s online engagement portal is designed to be as interactive as face to face events, allowing for presentation of key project information and plans, as well as providing an opportunity to ask questions about the project..
