SSEN Transmission leads the way in environmental sustainability for fourth year in a row
- Energy firm awarded ‘leadership status’ by Ofgem for excellence in environmental sustainability
Perth-based energy giant SSEN Transmission - part of SSE Group, the UK and Ireland’s clean energy champion - has been awarded ‘leadership’ status in environmental sustainability by energy regulator Ofgem for a fourth year in a row, the highest rating which can be achieved.
The announcement also means that SSEN Transmission is the only GB transmission owner to be awarded the prestigious ‘leadership’ status for four consecutive years, cementing its reputation as leading the way in environmental sustainability.
The award comes after Ofgem published its decision on this year’s Environmental Discretionary Results (EDR), an annual incentive set by the energy regulator for transmission owners to demonstrate a strategic environmental focus and commitment in helping to support the transition to a low carbon economy.
Underpinning its commitment to tackle the climate emergency, SSEN Transmission has set ambitious plans to reduce its own emissions in line with what is required to meet net zero emissions. These carbon reduction commitments have been verified by the Science Based Target initiative, with SSEN Transmission the world’s first electricity networks company to receive external accreditation for a science-based target in line with a 1.5°C global warming pathway.

With the north of Scotland home to some of the world’s greatest resources of renewable energy, SSEN Transmission has a critical role to play in delivering net zero, with a recent report confirming that the north of Scotland, with just 2% of the UK population, has the potential to contribute up to 10% of emissions abatement required for the UK’s net zero target.
