Public invited to share views on new Melgarve Cluster project at virtual consultation
- New project will connect new Glenshero, Cloiche and Dell wind farm developments to transmission network
- Face-to-face consultation events will be held in January
Members of the public are invited to share their views on plans to install three new connections from local wind farm developments in the area as well as upgrade a substation located at Melgarve, around 7 miles from Laggan
The project, collectively known as the Melgarve Cluster, is needed to connect the nearby Glenshero wind farm, Cloiche wind farm and Dell wind farm into the existing Melgarve 400/132kV substation to enable electricity to be exported from these wind farms to the national power grid.
Around 5.5km of underground cable is proposed to be constructed to connect Glensherowindfarm to the substation, with 11km of overhead line required to connect Cloiche wind farm and 16km of overhead line required to connect Dell wind farm.
Members of the public are invited to share their views of the proposals for the new Melgarve Cluster project at a virtual consultation on Wednesday 8 December, with two in-person events planned to take place in January. The online virtual consultation events will be held between 1-3pm and 5-7pm, and have been designed to be fully interactive, allowing for presentation of key project information and plans. Visitors will be able to engage directly with the project team via a live instant messaging chat function, where they can ask any questions they might have about the project and share their feedback on the current proposals.
The in-person public exhibitions will take place on Monday 10 January at Fort Augustus Village Hall between 2-7pm, and at Laggan Community Hall on Tuesday 11 January between 2-7pm. This is an open-door drop-in session for anyone interested in learning more about the proposals.

This will allow the transportation of renewable electricity from where it’s generated to where it’s needed, supporting the transition to net zero emissions and the fight against climate change.
