SSEN Transmission’s Customer Connections team celebrated another job well done as they successfully connected and energised Halsary windfarm for Scottish Power Renewables, to allow them to export energy to grid for the first time.

Halsary windfarm, is one of two onshore developments from Scottish Power Renewables’ currently under construction in the north of Scotland. The 15-turbine wind farm, located south of Spittal, once complete will generate around 30 megawatts of renewable energy – enough to power the equivalent of more than 19,000 homes.

Despite some challenges SSEN Transmission’s Customer Connections team were able to meet the needs of the customers, delivering the connection on time and on budget.

Lead Project Manager, Pat Howe said :“I am immensely proud with what we have been able to achieve as a team during this connections project, successfully delivered on time which is one of our key RIIO-T2 Goals “Every Connection delivered on Time”

"Despite all the challenges, the whole SSEN Transmission team; Stakeholder Engagement, Operations, System Planning, Engineering and the Customer Connections team worked together to deliver a very successful outcome”

Craig Howarth, Lead Electrical Engineer (Onshore Renewables) for ScottishPower Renewables, said: “Our thanks to colleagues at SSEN Transmission for their support in achieving this major milestone for our Halsary windfarm, which will bring more clean, green energy to the Highlands. Projects like this are very much a team effort and rely on collaborative and joined-up working, which has been even more important this past year as we worked through the pandemic – thanks to everyone involved.”
