SSEN Transmission invites stakeholders to share feedback on proposals for a HVDC Converter Station at Peterhead

SSEN Transmission invites local stakeholders to join one of its online consultation events on 26 August, where it will be sharing its proposals to build a new HVDC Converter Station near Peterhead.

The proposed Converter Station, located adjacent to the existing Peterhead Power Station, 275kV substation and the 400kV substation currently under construction, will form a key part of the Eastern HVDC Link project, a sub-sea superhighway of electricity transmission which will see the installation of a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable from Sandford Bay at Peterhead, to Selby in England.

The development of the East Coast link is one of the most exciting energy developments over recent decades, essential to reduce constraints on the transmission network and support the UK’s ambitious 40GW offshore wind target by 2030.  It is also a critical step in SSEN Transmission’s commitment to deliver a network for net zero emissions.

Project Manager Steven Miller said:

“As a responsible developer, we are committed to working with the community and wider stakeholders as we continue to develop our proposals.  Stakeholder feedback has already been instrumental in developing our proposals so far and we would encourage anyone who is interested in finding out more about our plans to come along to one of the virtual consultation sessions.”

The virtual consultation exhibitions are part of a four week-long consultation and have been designed to be fully interactive, allowing for presentation of key project information and plans. The virtual consultation room will be available to view throughout the consultation period and in addition to this, there will be live chat sessions which provide an opportunity to engage directly with the project team via instant message chat.

The virtual consultation portal, the consultation brochure, other supporting documents and feedback forms can be accessed on the project webpage: www.ssen-transmission.co.uk/projects/eastern-hvdc-link/

In addition to the virtual consultation platform, the project team will be available to engage via post, email and telephone, to ensure stakeholders can provide feedback in a manner most suitable to them.

The virtual consultation events will be taking place as follows:

  • 26 August 2021 13:00 - 15:00
  • 26 August 2021 17:00 - 19:00
