SSEN Transmission welcomes the approval of the Kinardochy substation planning application by Perth and Kinross Council
The new substation will be built 3 kilometres south from Tummel Bridge and is part of plans for a wider reinforcement of the transmission network in the area. Work on the project is expected to commence in November 2021.
Following the completion of the Beauly-Denny 400/275kV double-circuit overhead line (OHL) in 2015, SSEN Transmission has significantly increased the capacity of the network and the transfer power through the west corridor, to centres of demand.
With new renewable generation looking to connect to the network in the area, the new reactive power compensation substation at Kinardochy will play a key role in supporting the management of energy and maintain a safe and secure supply of electricity across the network. The new substation will also enable the connection of new renewable energy to the grid and support the transition to net zero emissions.
Commenting on the key milestone for project, Project Manager, Gary Milne, said:
“We welcome the decision by Perth and Kinross Council to grant consent for Kinardochy substation, once constructed it will play a key role in reinforcing the network in the region and support the connection of new renewable electricity.
“We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to share their views on our proposals, this feedback has been essential in developing the final substation design. As a responsible developer, we will continue to engage with the local community before, during and after the construction of the substation, which is a critical piece of network infrastructure and will play an important part in the transition to a low carbon economy.”
