Delivering a network for net zero: SSEN Transmission publishes Annual Sustainability Report
SSEN Transmission has recently published their Annual Sustainability Report for year 2021/2022. Hear more from Alison Fulford, SSEN Transmission’s Sustainability Manager, on the positive progress made on our approach to Sustainability.
We have seen unprecedented change across society in recent years and ensuring we deliver a network for net zero, in an equitable and sustainable way, is ever more important to safeguard a secure an affordable supply of low carbon energy for GB. We are therefore delighted to share our performance in our Annual Sustainability Report 2021/22, for the first year of delivery under our RIIO-T2 Business Plan “a Network for Net Zero” and our Sustainability Action Plan.
2021/22 has been an exciting year for us and we’ve pulled out some of our highlights:
- We have continued to prioritise working together with others – from being Principal Partners at COP26 to partnering with community group Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust to support compensatory planting while investing within our local community.
- We have continued to show leadership through actions such as publishing our research showing that the north of Scotland can contribute 10% of total action needed to achieve UK net zero and being recognised by our peers by being awarded the Utility Week Net Zero Award.
- Finally, we’ve taken robust actions; from making progress in line with our Science Based Target and achieving an 11% reduction in our scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions from a 2018/19 baseline, to launching our first Diversity and Inclusion forum for employees to ensure we continue to make SSEN Transmission inclusive for all.
Overall, we have made great progress across our six sustainability ambitions and related commitments. You can see more of our highlights on pages 4-6 of the report.
Building on our strong performance from last year, we are continuing to work hard to deliver against our Sustainability Action Plan. Later this year we will be publishing an updated Sustainability Strategy to ensure we continue to remain at the forefront of sustainability and create a lasting, positive legacy for our environment, our people and our communities.
