SSEN Transmission takes home ‘Net Zero Award’

SSEN Transmission – part of the SSE Group, the UK’s clean energy champion - is delighted to have taken home the Net Zero Award at last night’s prestigious Utility Week Awards ceremony in London.

The Net Zero Award recognises SSEN Transmission’s drive to deliver a net zero future, with SSEN Transmission at the forefront of the UK’s efforts to tackle the climate emergency by harnessing the north of Scotland’s vast renewables resources and connecting and transporting that power to demand centres across Scotland and beyond.

A recent report by SSEN Transmission, ‘Getting to Net Zero: The critical contribution from electricity generated in the north of Scotland’, highlights the significant contribution SSEN Transmission will make to UK and Scottish Government net zero targets, up to 10% of the country’s total emissions abatement required for net zero to come from the north of Scotland’s electricity sector.

As well as its critical role in enabling the growth of renewable electricity, SSEN Transmission is also dedicated to take action to reduce its own impacts on climate change and was the world’s first network company to be accredited by the Science Based Target Initiative for its emissions reduction commitments which are in line with delivering a pathway to net zero.

Rob McDonald, Managing Director of SSEN Transmission, said:

“Tackling the climate emergency is at the heart of our business and we are hugely honoured to take home last night’s Net Zero Award which recognises our drive to deliver a net zero future.

“This award is testament to the hard work and dedication of all our teams, our supply chain partners and our customers and stakeholders as we continue to deliver a network for net zero emissions across the north of Scotland.

“We would also like to congratulate all other winners and nominees from last night’s ceremony and look forward to continuing to collaborate with our industry peers and wider stakeholders to accelerate progress towards a net zero future.”
