OVERHEAD LINE PROJECT TEAMS DONATE £4,000 FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY ABERNECCESSITIES

The teams working on a major overhead electricity line project in the north east of Scotland have come together to make a donation of £4,000 towards local children’s charity AberNecessities in support of their most recent appeal.

SSEN Transmission along with their principal contractor Omexom Morgan Sindall Infrastructure reached out to the charity after hearing about their most recent appeal, No Child Should Go Without Sweet Dreams.  The campaign involves raising funds to provide beds, mattresses, duvets, pillows, bedding and cosy extras such as pyjamas, fluffy socks, storybooks, teddy bears and hot water bottles, to ensure every child has a warm and safe place to rest their head.

Members of the North East 400kV overhead line reinforcement project, visited the charity’s HQ in Dyce to meet the team and to see for themselves the fantastic work which is providing essential supplies to families all across Aberdeen city and shire.

SSEN Transmission Project Manager Simon Robertson said: “As guests in the area It’s really important to us that we can support the community in which we operate, and after hearing about the brilliant work that AberNecessities carries out across the north east area we were keen to help in whatever way we could.

“After discussing with our contract partners Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and Omexom, we’re pleased to donate £4,000 on behalf of the project team to help out the No Child Should Go Without Sweet Dreams campaign.

It’s such an important charity and one which provides a vital lifeline to so many families in Aberdeen city and shire, and after meeting the team behind AberNecessities it was remarkable to see the incredible work they are doing in the community to help support families.  We’re proud to support such an amazing group.”

Danielle Flecher-Horn, Founder of AberNecessities, said: "The increased cost of living has sadly pushed more families over the poverty line and we are currently experiencing a huge influx of applications. Parents across our city and shire are growing increasingly concerned and are struggling to afford the basic essentials for their children and so this incredible support from SSEN Transmission is greatly appreciated.

Our No Child Should Go Without Sweet Dreams campaign is focussed on raising awareness and funds to provide underprivileged children with a good night's sleep. Getting enough sleep is essential for helping with a child's development, health and well-being.  This generous donation will allow us to continue to support families by providing everything they need to create a cosy bedtime routine and sweet dreams."

SSEN Transmission is reinforcing the existing 275kV overhead line connecting the substations at Blackhillock, Rothienorman, New Deer and Peterhead to enable operation at an increased voltage of 400kV.  This will allow increased generation capacity to the transmission system and allow the connection of future renewable energy projects in the area.
