SSEN Transmission awarded top-tier rating for stakeholder engagement

SSEN Transmission is excited to share that they have scored a total of 82% on the AccountAbility Stakeholder Engagement Maturity Ladder in its 2021/22 AA1000 Healthcheck.

The AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard is considered the ‘gold standard’ in stakeholder engagement accreditation and SSEN Transmission’s latest performance represents a notable increase of 20% from its first AA1000 Healthcheck score of 62%, achieved in 2020. This significant accomplishment now positions SSEN Transmission in the highest ‘Advanced’ stage of AccountAbility’s Maturity Ladder – an important commitment they promised to achieve by the end of the RIIO-T2 price control (March 2026).

The AA1000 Healthcheck is a comprehensive and far-reaching audit conducted by leading global consulting and standards firm, AccountAbility, and helps to ensure the very highest standards in professional stakeholder engagement are delivered. The Healthcheck incorporates a thorough review of stakeholder engagement practices, processes, documentation, engagement tools, and also includes interviews with stakeholders.

AccountAbility has recognised SSEN Transmission’s work to develop an improved digital experience to their stakeholders through their new website (launching this year), the consistent use of stakeholder engagement templates and tools, and the systematic review of their Stakeholder Engagement Strategy to ensure they keep up with the fast-changing nature of stakeholder demands.

An improved stakeholder engagement performance benefits stakeholders through greater collaboration, more purposeful and targeted engagement, and the removal of the barriers some stakeholders can experience, making it easier to engage.

Shaun Hodge, Product Owner (previously Communications Policy Manager) at SSEN Transmission, said:

“As a stakeholder-led business, we are extremely proud to have achieved top-tier performance against the independently accredited AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard. Our latest score of 82% is a true testament to our commitment to working collaboratively with stakeholders to inform and enrich our important work to deliver our Network for Net Zero.”

The hard work doesn’t stop there. SSEN Transmission will now review and prioritise their latest improvement recommendations from AccountAbility and progress these to further improve engagement standards for stakeholders.

Christianna Logan, Director of Customers and Stakeholders at SSEN Transmission said:

“I’d like to thank the colleagues and stakeholders that have delivered and participated in our engagement and have helped us achieve this top category position in what is effectively a global benchmark for engagement standards.”
