SSEN Transmission is delighted to have scored a total of 85% on the AccountAbility Stakeholder Engagement Maturity Ladder in its 2022/23 AA1000 Healthcheck.

The AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard is considered the ‘gold standard’ in stakeholder engagement accreditation and the latest performance represents a 3% increase achieved in 2022. SSEN Transmission has maintained their position in the highest ‘Advanced’ stage of AccountAbility’s Maturity Ladder – an important commitment they promised to achieve by the end of the RIIO-T2 price control (March 2026).

The AA1000 Healthcheck is a comprehensive and far-reaching audit conducted by leading global consulting and standards firm, AccountAbility, and helps to ensure the very highest standards in professional stakeholder engagement are delivered. The Healthcheck incorporates a thorough review of stakeholder engagement practices, processes, documentation, engagement tools, and includes interviews with stakeholders.

An improved stakeholder engagement performance benefits stakeholders through greater collaboration, more purposeful and targeted engagement, and the removal of the barriers some stakeholders can experience, making it easier to engage.

Nicola Findlay, SSEN Transmission Communications Policy Manager said:

“Achieving the ‘Advanced rating’ for a second year this is a fantastic achievement. It demonstrates to our Stakeholders that we are meeting best practise in Stakeholder Engagement, and it helps us achieve the best result for our business and its Stakeholders”.

Christianna Logan, SSEN Transmission Director of Customers and Stakeholders said:

“This year’s assessment showcases the improvements in engagement made across the whole of Transmission. Achieving this score in a year where our business grew significantly is a great outcome which shows that engagement is being delivered in line with our strategy, by existing and new employees.

“Colleagues from the HR team and the Strategy team were amongst those who were interviewed by AccountAbility and best practise was highlighted from our employee engagement, digitalisation projects, our work with customers, and engagement on capital projects. I would like to thank everyone for their involvement in achieving this score and keeping our stakeholders at the forefront of our business.”

The hard work doesn't stop there! SSEN Transmission will now review and prioritise the latest improvement recommendations from AccountAbility and progress these to further improve engagement standards for stakeholders.
