Collaboration and Coordination underline our “Whole” way of thinking: 2023 Whole System Coordination Register now available

A blog by Andrew Urquhart, Head of Whole Systems at SSEN Transmission

At SSEN Transmission, our Whole System strategy has always been about collaborating and cooperating with all of the different customers and stakeholders across the transmission network, making sure we can deliver the most efficient outcome for our customers and communities. We’re proud of this approach – as a stakeholder led business, it ensures we continue to be transparent and accessible on the work we’re doing in this area.

Today we’ve published our Whole System Coordination Register which provides a clear and transparent overview of our activities to date. As part of our regulatory license requirements, we are required to coordinate and cooperate with other electricity network licensees to develop whole system electricity outcomes including data sharing. We are also required to consider proposals received from network users to advance the efficient and economical operation of network. The coordination register is a comprehensive overview of how we achieved this,

Publishing the register enables us to collaborate and work together across the industry, to further enable us to help deliver a network for net zero. Conventionally, the energy industry tends to work in isolated elements, but the journey to a zero-carbon future relies on us doing things differently and moving away from traditional ways of working.

At SSEN Transmission, we believe that taking a whole system approach when carrying out our network design, future planning and project delivery means we can look at the wider elements and systems of the energy industry, helping to inform how we can work collaboratively to tackle issues. We believe this is the right path to take, allowing us to find innovative and efficient network solutions to allow us to strive towards net zero.

As ever, we’d love to hear more about how we can improve on our Whole System approach, so do reach out if you have ideas to share.
