Global Accessibility Awareness Day

We’re proud to celebrate the 12th Global Accessibility Awareness Day by joining together with Recite Me to raise awareness of the importance of digital inclusion and accessibility. Thursday the 18th of May marks Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a key date in our calendar to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion.

Over 1.3 billion people worldwide have a disability, and of this number, it’s estimated that only 1 in 10 people have access to the assistive products that they need to read and understand digital content.

To cast aside an inaccessible digital world, and to help remove barriers that many people face, we offer the Recite Me assistive toolbar to help provide an accessible website to our stakeholders, customers and colleagues. This enables them to customise their digital experience to suit their own specific needs.

Every visitor to our website deserves a first-rate digital experience. People with access needs due to disabilities/impairments must be able to experience web-based services, content, and other digital products with the same successful outcome as those without.

When you visit our new website which launched in October, you can use a variety of support tools within the Recite Me toolbar to read and understand content in a way that works for you. Features include customisable styling features, multiple reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages including 65 text-to-speech. Our website users can launch the Recite Me assistive toolbar by clicking the yellow treble-A icon on our website: www.ssen-transmission.co.uk/

As we deliver our Network for Net Zero, we’ll also continue to build accessible online experiences and invest in IT systems that work for everyone. On Global Accessibility Awareness Day, it’s not just about understanding why someone needs assistance, it’s about providing tools without question, as we work towards a fully inclusive digital world.
