Teams from SSEN Transmission and specialist engineering and construction company J. Murphy & Sons Ltd recently met to discuss how they could help deliver a positive legacy for local communities as part of SSEN’s investment in the transmission network in the north of Scotland.

Last year, Murphy was selected as a preferred bidder to help deliver SSEN Transmission’s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) upgrade framework, part of its Pathway to 2030 £20bn programme that will see the installation of overhead lines, underground cables and substations to enable the delivery of renewable energy across the UK.

Held at Murphy’s new office facilities in Alness, constructed to enable the delivery of Pathway to 2030 projects, the team building day focused on the themes of values, collaboration and teamwork – with an emphasis on how the two companies could continue to help deliver a positive legacy in local communities.

The session included a visit from Patricia Anderson from Barnardo’s Inverness, who spoke about the Scottish Academy for Construction Opportunities (SACO) scheme which supports local people in finding careers in the construction sector.

Kevin Smith, Project Director for SSEN Transmission’s Capital Development and Delivery team, commented:

“The teams enjoyed taking part in an engaging session focusing on collaboration, and it was great to see how the two companies values and behaviours align.

“Our ASTI Delivery Charter commits all those working on the programme to leaving a legacy and positive impact in the communities where this infrastructure will be hosted, and it was great to hear about the SACO scheme and to discuss how both companies could work together to offer employment opportunities to local people.

“The enthusiasm of everyone who attended was clear to see, and it was really helpful in establishing shared goals and values as we work together to deliver our Pathway to 2030 projects and leaving a positive legacy for local communities.”
