Footballers going to Europe in style after donation from SSEN Transmission
A youth football team in Aberdeenshire is going to Europe in style next year, following a donation of kit bags from SSEN Transmission.
Inverurie’s Colony Colts under-14s will travel to an international youth football tournament in Germany in early 2025, and the 22 individualised kit bags will help players store their boots and other essential items safely and securely.
The donation came courtesy of SSEN Transmission’s Rothienorman substation project, which is currently near completion. Located close to the village of Rothienorman near Inverurie, the new 400/275kV substation will allow increased generation capacity access to the transmission system and increase network capability.
Kevin Bruce, coach of the Colony Colts, said:
“We are grateful to SSEN Transmission and the Rothienorman substation project for this donation, which comes as part of our fundraising efforts for next year’s trip to Munich hosted by the Bayern Munich Academy involving teams from across Europe and beyond.
“The players have been hard at work raising funds for the trip and have taken part in lots of different activities meaning we’re well on our way to raising what we need for all our squad members to take part in the trip.
“The donation of individualised kit bags, which will be used as hand luggage for the trip as well as for training and matches, is another show of support from the local community. Our thanks go to SSEN Transmission and all those who are supporting our fundraising efforts.”
Laura Lintott, Project Manager for SSEN Transmission’s Rothienorman substation project, said:
“The Rothienorman substation project is committed to supporting local groups and organisations as part of SSEN Transmission’s wider efforts to act as a positive force in the communities we operate.
“These efforts are a key aim of our £20bn investment to upgrade the electricity network in the north of Scotland, which will create huge economic benefit for the region in terms of jobs while supporting national net zero and energy security ambitions.
“We were delighted to make this donation to Colony Colts under-14s and lend our support to the team’s fundraising efforts for its trip to Germany. It was a pleasure to meet the team and hand over the kit bags in person, and we wish them every success for the rest of the season – including in next year’s tournament in Munich!”
