Harris community shines brightly after SSEN Transmission team helps deliver Christmas tree

A Harris community is shining a little more brightly this week, after a team from SSEN Transmission answered a call for help to deliver and plant a Christmas tree in Tarbert.

The team – from the Harris to Stornoway 132kV overhead line project – helped the North Harris Trust deliver and plant the tree in the village, after a vehicle breakdown prevented Trust members doing so themselves.

The 10ft sitka spruce was donated by Aline Community Woodland and now has pride of place in the village, where it is helping keep festive spirits alive.

Project Manager Andrew Ewing said: “We were delighted to answer the call for help from the North Harris Trust, helping deliver and plant the Christmas tree for local people to enjoy.

“Our team carefully dug up the tree including its roots so it could be re-planted as part of the village’s festive celebrations in future years.

“Our project is helping deliver a secure and reliable source of power for local communities in the Western Isles, so it’s good to know that our efforts will keep the Christmas tree lights shining for years to come!”
