SSEN Transmission, BAM and Siemens Energy strengthen alliance with new ASTI Framework contract

ASTI-signing

SSEN Transmission has announced a renewed partnership with BAM and Siemens Energy through the signing of a transformative contract under the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework. This agreement is a testament to the strong, existing collaboration amongst the three organisations, and helps to set a foundation for future successes in enhancing the UK’s energy network.

BAM and Siemens Energy will support SSEN Transmission in delivering onshore transmission infrastructure schemes, working to help deliver the substations that are required to connect the transmission network in north Scotland by 2030.

Speaking as the contract was signed, Paul Leddie, Director of Procurement at SSEN Transmission, said:

“Over the past decade BAM and Siemens Energy have combined as a Joint Venture to successfully deliver a number of our flagship substation schemes. Following their success in the recent ASTI tender process, it is fantastic news that this strong collaboration will continue across a number of our ASTI programme substation schemes, helping deliver the transition to Net Zero whilst creating jobs and delivering tangible benefits to local communities.”

Dougie Grant, Regional Director for Scotland at BAM, shared his enthusiasm:
“This significant milestone celebrates our longstanding collaboration with Siemens Energy and SSE, a partnership we deeply value. We're excited to combine our expertise to deliver essential national infrastructure, showcasing the project's importance. This venture offers a unique chance for our team's growth and development in a sustainability-driven environment, and allows us to support UK’s transition to net zero.”

And Mark Pilling, Vice President of Grid Solutions Europe at Siemens Energy, said:

“We are delighted to be continuing with our long-standing relationship with SSEN and our Joint Venture Partner Bam, delivering the ASTI programme as part of the Network for Net Zero – pathway to 2030. The Energy Transition and achieving Net Zero is one of the greatest challenges facing us in generations. As a Joint Venture we have the know how, technology, people and skills to enable the deployment of innovative solutions to deliver the infrastructure required for ASTI.”

At SSEN Transmission, we are investing over £20bn to upgrade the network infrastructure across the north of Scotland between now and 2030 as the region plays a leading role in the clean energy transition.

As a mass transporter of renewable energy, the north of Scotland electricity transmission network has a major role to play in supporting delivery of Scotland and the UK’s 2030 net zero targets, connecting new onshore and offshore renewable generation and transporting the power generated to demand centres in the rest of Scotland and beyond.

The development of this infrastructure is critical to powering change and meeting Scotland and the UK’s energy security and net zero targets, supporting jobs across the supply chain, and renewing the partnership with BAM and Siemens Energy is another example of that commitment.
