SSEN Transmission has made a donation to a local Men’s Shed in Aberdeen, which will help them build new equipment for a school nursery and other community projects.

The donation of timber boards to Culter & District Men’s Shed, based in Peterculter, came from a cable repair project in the city involving SSEN Transmission and cable manufacturer Prysmian. It will be used to build a mud kitchen at Culter School & Nursery, amongst other equipment.

Colin Nicol, Culter & District Men’s Shed Trustee, said:
“On behalf of the Men’s Shed, I would like to thank SSEN and Prysmian for their kind donation. The timbers will be used to build mud kitchens for a school nursery along with various other projects including community planters”

Rachel Kennedy, Lead Project Manager at SSEN Transmission commented,
“We are delighted to help Culter and District Men’s Shed by donating timber boards, which otherwise would have been sent to landfill. The material was used for constructing new jointing bays on a cable repair project in Aberdeen.”

The recent donation followed a previous donation of items from a local substation replacement project, which helped Culter & District Men’s Shed replenish stocks while also donating brand new safety equipment.

Items including tools, protective gloves, ear defenders, and a store for hazardous substances were among the items donated from the Willowdale Grid Supply Point project, which is upgrading the existing substation at Willowdale Place which has supplied the distribution network in eastern Aberdeen since its construction in the late 1960s.
