SSEN Transmission welcomes proposals for community benefits
Commenting on the UK Government’s announcement today of new guidance for community benefit funding, and a bill discount scheme for households near new above ground electricity transmission infrastructure, Rob McDonald, SSEN Transmission’s Managing Director, said:
“We welcome proposals for community benefits for hosting the new electricity infrastructure needed to achieve energy security and clean power ambitions, and we will engage with the UK Government on the detail of today's announcement.
“SSEN Transmission has always been committed to leaving a lasting legacy from this vital work – including through our landmark housing strategy – and we anticipate that our ‘Pathway to 2030’ investment programme will generate upwards of £100m in community benefit funding for communities across the north of Scotland.
“We are already delivering on this commitment. For example, just last month we announced the first ever funding for projects from our Regional Community Benefit Fund, with a great deal more to follow."
