Trio of SSEN Transmission innovation projects secured through third Discovery round of Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund

SSEN Transmission has been awarded nearly £400k through Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) to kickstart three collaborative innovation projects. The projects will explore novel techniques to deliver a secure energy system for the future and accelerate connection times for bringing renewable generation onto the transmission network.

Go-ahead granted for new Harris-Lewis overhead line
SSEN Transmission has been granted consent by The Scottish Government for a new overhead transmission line from Harris to Stornoway, which when complete will bolster energy security on the Isle of Lewis.

SSEN Transmission will hold an additional public engagement event in Stonehaven on Monday 11 March, providing a further opportunity for people to discuss proposed plans to upgrade the energy transmission network in Aberdeenshire and Angus, as part of a package of upgrades across the north of Scotland.

EGL2, a joint venture between SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), has reached another milestone in the development of a new subsea electricity superhighway after sealing contracts this week with specialist HVDC cable supplier, Prysmian, and with Hitachi Energy and BAM for the supply of converter stations at either end of the project too.

Work ongoing to explore alternative potential site for new Lewis HVDC convertor station and substation

SSEN Transmission can confirm that its Western Isles HVDC Connector Project team are no longer actively progressing the Creed North site it previously consulted on for its proposed new HVDC Convertor Station and AC Substation, a key component for the Western Isles HVDC subsea link.
