About the Project
This project consists of the construction of a new 275/132kV Gas Insulated Switchgear Substation at Creag Dhubh, with this connected from Creag Dhubh to the Scottish Power Transmission Dalmally – Windyhill 275kV Overhead Line via 13.5km of proprosed new 275kV double circuit steel tower Overhead Line.
Why is the Project Required?
The existing transmission network for Argyll was originally designed to serve a rural area with low demand for electricity. Requests from renewable generation developers to connect to the network in this area exceed the current capacity of the existing transmission network, meaning a new transmission circuit is required to meet demand from generation developers and ensure security of supply.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.

Scheduled Blasting
SSEN Transmission would like to update residents who live close to our construction site where we are currently undertaking works to erect Creag Dhubh Substation project that Siemens BAM from 4th September 2024 will be undertaking a programme of blasting in the vicinity of the substation site, these activities will last for approximately ten weeks.
These works will not impact the movements of the local community and all works are being undertaken in line with industry best practice, however, if you have any concerns on these activities, please do not hesitate to contact the project community liaison manager.

Site preparatory works commence at Creag Dhubh substation
We are pleased to advise that from 7 May 2024 we will be beginning the first phase of site preparatory works at the new Creag Dhubh substation site. These woks will involve the mobilisation of construction plant to start preparing the area to accommodate workers and implementing site specific mitigation measures to protect the environment. Meet the Buyer Event - Thank You
On behalf our principal contractor BAM and the SSEN Transmission project team would like to thank everyone who took the time to visit us at our public event event this week.
Over 20 businesses attended our meet the buyer event with others sending enquries via phone and email. This was really beneficial for us to understand the local businesses that are available in the local area.

Forestry Update
Felling works on Creag Dhubh Substation are to begin week commencing 29/01/24.These works will consist of of the following;
Timber Harvesting
Mulching
De-stumping by mulching to ground level of all stumps.
Small-scale motor-manual felling, chipping and timber extraction.
Small-scale arboricultural works
The total area of felling that will be completed for this project;
Substation & Temporay works area to be felled =5.93 ha
Management Felling to be felled = 3.55 ha

Meet the Buyer Event
SSEN Transmission will soon begin construction on the Argyll and Kintyre 275kV substations.
As part of these projects and our ongoing commitment to ensure that where possible, opportunities are advertised locally in the first instance, we are welcoming local businesses to attend an informal drop-in meeting to engage with our principal contractors and to exchange details to discuss the possible opportunities for the local supply chain.
These projects have the potential to create local business and employment opportunities in the following fields: Accommodation, fencing, skip hire, catering, cleaning services, plant hire, general operations workers, groundworkers, electricians and more. We would encourage any relevant local businesses to attend these events and discuss what possible business opportunities there are with our principal contractors.

Creah Dhubh Substation Application update
SSEN Transmission recently submitted their application for consent under Section 37 of The Electricity Act 1989, to install a 13.3km double circuit 275kV overhead line between the proposed Creag Dhubh substation and the existing Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) 275 kV overhead line, near Succoth Glen. We have also submitted a Town and Country Planning (T&CP) application to Argyll and Bute Council (A&BC) for the Creag Dhubh substation which we are awaiting confirmation that this has been validated and following this it will be published on the Argyll and Bute Council website. For your awareness, the Energy Consents Unit are now taking representations and we have asked that they extend the standard 30 day period of consultation to 60 days given the extent of local interest and to allow stakeholders time to consider their input. This will remain open until 23rd August , please note you need to register to make representation.
