Overview
About the Project
We plan to replace the existing double 132kV circuits operating between Redmoss Substation (Langdykes Road, Aberdeen) and Clayhills Substation (South College Street, Aberdeen) over a distance of 5km (10km total cable replaced, 2 x circuits). The replacement cables will utilise our existing underground duct network, minimising excavation works, traffic management and road closures along the existing route.
Redmoss and Clayhills Substations form an integral part of the overall Aberdeen City 132kV ring network.
Why is the Project Required?
The existing 132kV cables are reaching end of life and are the last circuits in the Aberdeen ring network to be replaced. This replacement and re-energisation project will complete the Aberdeen ring network cable upgrade process, providing improved operational flexibility and resilience in line with our goal to aim for 100% transmission network reliability for homes and businesses.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a project and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss our proposals with local community councils, Ward Councillors, and the wider affected community and carry out engagement at key stages, listening to feedback before finalising project plans.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area, and as many long term positive effects as possible.
