About the Project
We are proposing to construct strategic spares warehouses at locations in Inverness and Dundee.
The warehouses will incorporate heavy lifting facilities, bunded areas for oil filled plant, bespoke storage areas, and office and welfare areas for staff. In line with one of our core values of sustainability, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points will be installed and photovoltaics (PV) installations will be considered if practical.
The locational advantages of the sites identified at Inverness and Dundee is anticipated to lead to benefits with regard to improved repair times to reduced network and customer risks, and will help rationalise spares holdings and reduce consequences of system failures by way of improved logistics and advantageous strategic access to the network area.
Inverness Warehouse
Our proposal is to construct a 7500m2 strategic spares warehouse at the Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP) development adjacent to Inverness Airport. The selected location has excellent transport links being in close proximity to major trunk roads.
Dundee Warehouse
Our proposal is to construct a 7500m2 strategic spares warehouse on land within Claverhouse East Industrial Estate currently allocated for industrial development. The selected location has excellent transport links being in close proximity to major trunk roads and the port of Dundee.

Why is the Project Required?
We have a need for improved materials management and warehousing capabilities. This relates to the need to improve overall electricity network infrastructure performance through reliability, availability and maintainability of asset and spares’ inventory.
Existing facilities for the storage of network materials are in unsuitable locations and require updating. The Government’s drive to Net Zero means there will be expansion of the electricity network and a greater need for improved reliability and system resilience.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.

We are committed to supporting the communities in the north of Scotland where we operate, both now and in the future. As part of our ongoing efforts to make a difference and have a positive impact on local communities, we are proud to offer volunteering days to local groups and charities, particularly in the areas that host our electricity infrastructure or where our proposed projects are located.

Site Closure 2024
Works on site will pause for the 2024 festive period with the site closing from 20 December 2024 until 6 January 2025. Although the site will be closed for all construction workers during this period, security will remain in place. -
Milestone reached as Dundee warehouse project erects steel columns and the first truss
As the Inverness site approaches the completion of wall cladding this month, the Dundee site has reached the major milestone of erecting it steel columns and first truss.
Looking to a month from now the steel erection of the Transformer Hall will coincide with the start of the drainage (out with the exclusion zone), which includes – installation of SPEL tanks, attenuation system and manholes etc.
The buildings will be used to house strategic spares to support SSEN Transmission’ future expansion and goals to NetZero.

Commencement of Construction: Dundee Strategic Spares Warehouse
We would like to advise of the commencement of construction of Dundee Strategic Spares Warehouse on Jack Martin Way, Claverhouse Industrial Estate from mid-January 2024, following planning permission granted by Dundee City Council on the 15th August 2023.
Our principal contractor, Global Infrastructure, will be working in the vicinity from January and this will include setting up the site compound, the build of a temporary car park, portacabins and advance survey work. Lorries will be going to and from the site with no road closures planned.
Our working hours will be between 07:00-18:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00-13:00 on Saturdays and we will endeavour to keep disturbance to a minimum. There may be times where there could be an increase in traffic and noise. Global’s traffic management plan seeks to mitigate the impact to local residents and businesses, the detail of these can be viewed via Dundee City Council’s planning portal under reference 23/00232/FULM.

Site mobilisation
SSEN Transmission's Principal Contractor, Global, have commenced site mobilisation works for our Inverness Strategic Spares Warehouse Project at the Inverness Airport Business Park (IABP).
Initial work will include setting up the site compound, the build of a temporary car park, portacabins and advance survey work. Lorries will be going to and from the site with no road closures planned.
Construction of the warehouse will commence from the 4th September 2023 following planning permission being granted by The Highland Council on the 6th April 2023.
Our working hours will be between 08:00- 19:00 Monday to Friday and 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays and we will endeavour to keep disturbance to a minimum. There may be times where there could be an increase in traffic and noise. Global’s Traffic Management plan seeks to mitigate the impact to local residents and businesses, the detail of these can be viewed via The Highland Council planning portal under reference 22/02224/MSC. -
Inverness Planning Permission Granted
We are pleased to announce that permission for the Inverness Warehouse works has been approved, subject to conditions, by The Highland Council, on 6th April 2023. Construction works intend to start in late Summer 2023 and are expected to be completed in 2025. -
Dundee Planning Permission Granted
Planning permission for the Dundee Warehouse works was approved, subject to conditions, at the full meeting of The Dundee City Council on 13th March 2023. Construction works are intended to start in late Summer 2023 and are expected to be completed in 2025. Our Community Liaison Manager will continue to engage with local residents, businesses and stakeholders throughout the stages of these works. -

Resubmitted Dundee Warehouse Planning Application
In November 2022 due to revised operational requirements, we re-submitted to Dundee City Council our planning application regarding our proposal for the erection of an industrial warehouse and associated works at Claverhouse East, Dundee. To view our amended application in full and submit formal comment to the council our application can be viewed via Dundee City Council planning portal, under reference APPN 22/00775/FULM.

Dundee Warehouse Planning Application
We are delighted to confirm we have now submitted our final planning application to Dundee City Council regarding our proposal for the erection of an industrial warehouse (7817 sqm), formation of access, associated infrastructure and landscaping at Claverhouse East, Dundee. Dundee Warehouse Feedback Period
The feedback period following the recent virtual online consultation events held in September for our Dundee warehouse is now closed. All responses received will now be reviewed ahead of submission of a planning application. -

We have now submitted the Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Dundee City Council under the terms of the Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure)(Scotland) Regulations 2013. This notice states our intent to submit a planning application to construct a Strategic Spares warehouse development at Jack Martin Way, Claverhouse East Industrial Estate, Dundee. -
